HANBOK HISTORY FROM ANCIENT ERA TO MODERN ERA

Hanbok history-Ancient Era

Hanbok, our traditional Korean attire, has quite a history! It first popped up in ancient Goguryeo murals, making it way older than we might think. Back then, it was loose-fitting and evolved gradually, kind of like how fashion trends change today.

Can you believe that Hanbok’s journey involved influences from the Manchu people and even Western clothing? They imported some Mongolian and Western styles, added a touch of Korean flair, and voila – the Hanbok we know today!

Over the years, women’s jeogori got shorter, skirts longer, giving off a vibe similar to Western boleros and dresses. It’s like a fascinating cultural dance, isn’t it?

Hanbok didn’t go through extreme makeovers but embraced small changes, like toggles replacing buttons. Everyday Hanbok became a bit more comfy, with shorter sleeves and convenient buttons.

Hanbok history-Three Kingdomes Period

Imagine Goguryeo times, riding horses in their wide pants and jeogori. Both men and women rocked pants and jeogori, with women adding skirts for that extra flair.

During the Three Kingdoms period, styles were shared, and they even exchanged fashion with China and Japan. Fast forward to Goryeo, and Hanbok took a fancy turn with Chinese imports, like Magwallya leather outerwear.

Joseon-era was a wild fashion ride – from spacious garments for everyone to body-fitted styles. And you won’t believe the 18th century – shorter jeogori and fitted styles galore!

Fast forward to the modern era – Hanbok became more of a special occasion thing. But guess what? People are working hard to make it a part of everyday life again! Celebrities endorse it, and there are cool collaborations with fashion brands. How awesome is that?

And don’t forget, October 21st is ‘Hanbok Day’! Plus, since March 2021, the last Wednesday of each month is officially ‘Good Day to Wear Hanbok.’ Talk about bringing tradition back!

Nowadays, you might spot parents rocking Hanbok at weddings – dads in suits and moms looking elegant in Hanbok. Even in the military, high-ranking officers’ wives often grace official events in Hanbok.

So, while Hanbok might seem all fancy for special events, there’s a movement to make it part of our daily lives again. Let’s bring back that Hanbok vibe!Gyeongbokgung Palace Hanbok
